Sponsorship disclosure checker

Paste what you will post. See whether the disclosure is clear for the US, the UK and Canada — and the first line that would fix it.

Where your audience is

How it works

Fixed rules, no AI, and nothing leaves your browser. The checker looks for a clear label (“Ad”, #ad, “Sponsored”, “Paid partnership”, #brand_partner, an affiliate statement, “Gifted”), checks it is one that market accepts for your kind of deal, that it sits in the first line (before “more”), and flags vague tags (#sp, #spon, #collab, #thanks, #aff) that regulators say do not count.

Questions

Is #ad enough?

In all three places, a clear “#ad” or “Ad” at the start of the caption is the safest label. In a video it also has to be in the video itself — said and shown on screen near the start — not only in the description.

Can I write “sponsored” instead of “ad”?

In the US and Canada, “sponsored” is a clear label. In the UK the ASA advises against “sponsored” on its own because people read it in different ways — use “Ad” or #ad there. If your audience is in more than one country, #ad works everywhere.

Do affiliate links need a disclosure?

Yes. In the US and Canada a plain sentence such as “I earn a commission if you buy through these links” works. In the UK an affiliate post is an ad, so it needs “Ad” or #ad; “affiliate” or #aff alone is not enough.

What about free products?

Disclose them too. If the brand did not ask you to post or approve what you said, “gifted” is the right word (UK, Canada) and “free product” works in the US. If the brand required the post or controlled it, it is an ad and needs “Ad”.

Does the platform’s “paid partnership” label count?

It helps, but the FTC, the ASA and Ad Standards all say it may not be enough on its own. Add your own label in the caption and in the video. A note in your bio never counts.

Is this legal advice?

No. It checks your text against the regulators’ published guidance with fixed rules. It cannot see your video, and the rules change — the sources are linked under “How it works”.
